Chapter Fourteen

“We are all ordinary. We are all boring. We are all spectacular. We are all shy. We are all bold. We are all heroes. We are all helpless. It just depends on the day.”

― Brad Meltzer

Camillia had one more exam, and Mia had two, but we were determined to celebrate today. The end of exams and the beginning of winter break were more than enough reasons for some fun. With me being the first to finish, I had the longest wait. But with my favorite book just waiting to be re-read and a shady Ginkgo tree, I was all set. I loved the feel of paper against my fingertips, even though physical books were antiquated and mostly turned to dust. Anyone who gave me a second glance would probably be confused. They wouldn't know what a paperback book was like anymore. My back against the bark and the sun twinkling through the leaves above me, I could care less about others.

I just hoped I could stay awake.

My all-nighter had been worth it. I still felt good about the New World History exam I just finished. Even if most of the so-called 'history' was depressing, I managed to vomit it all out from brain to page, never to be thought of again. Until I took New World History 102 next semester, so there was that to look forward to. More than anything, I needed to bring a good report card home to my parents if I wanted to stay another semester.

It was a bright sunny day, but it was still chilly as time barreled right into winter. The autumn colors were still on the Ginkgo trees' leaves, a golden yellow joining the sun around me. Everyone passing down the avenue was happy with the chatter of their winter break plans, and I allowed myself to eavesdrop for a few moments before digging into my book.

The Princess had just been dropped into a mystical otherworld when a shadow fell over me, and my heart began to beat a strange rhythm. I had been careless, lacked sleep, and forgot about keeping my wits about me as time passed.

"Long time no see . . ." Yuuto's deep cords washed over me.

I sincerely didn't want to look up, but Yuuto didn't leave me any choice. Looming over me the way he was, if I didn't look, who knew what he would do. "What are you doing here?"

Luck was on my side. He was standing with the sun right behind him, so I only saw his silhouette, keeping his shining orbs from digging in. "I'm looking for you."

"Me?" It was hard, separating my two lives. To Yuuto, I was just Josaline, a silly girl who had been avoiding him for a month now. But to me, he was in both worlds. He knew me as Moto and Josaline, and I had seen all his sides. Josaline was supposed to be angry with him, but Moto wasn’t which left me confused in how to feel. He couldn't know I was Moto.
